Lauren & Sam | Two-day Adventure Elopement in the Colorado Rockies
Some stories take an unexpected turn — and become unforgettable because of it.
When Lauren & Sam first reached out, they had plans to elope in the Blue Ridge Mountains. They’d decided early on that a traditional wedding just wasn’t for them. As they put it: “Neither of us wanted to throw a huge, expensive party for other people to enjoy. This is definitely the way to go so we can plan exactly what we want — while being in the mountains.”
But as we got to know them, we discovered there was an even earlier version of their dream — one they’d quietly set aside: eloping in Colorado.
They had been to Colorado before and loved it. The towering peaks. The lakes and wildflowers. The sense of space and stillness. It was part of their original vision from the start. But when they brought it up with family, it felt “out of reach” — like it would be too much to plan, too far away to make it real. That’s when they looked a little closer to home and found us.
And so, the Blue Ridge Mountains became the plan — until Hurricane Helene swept through and changed everything.
It was a difficult moment for everyone. But as we regrouped together, we remembered that earlier dream. We asked: What if we go back to the Rockies? What if we build a whole new plan — one that still holds the heart of what you wanted, and gives you the mountain experience you’ve been imagining all along?
And here’s where the magic really started.

This Wasn’t Just a Backup Plan — It Was a Completely New Vision
Lauren & Sam didn’t hand us a script for Colorado — they trusted us to design it from the ground up. Drawing from our years of travel experience in the state, we scouted out and vetted unique, event-friendly Airbnb properties across Colorado that matched their vision: something elegant, remote, peaceful, and surrounded by natural beauty. For each potential home, we paired nearby adventure spots that would complement the experience and bring balance to both days. It was a huge effort behind the scenes — one that could only happen because we knew them so well by that point, and because creating immersive, personalized elopement days is exactly what we do.
This wasn’t just a backup plan. It became the right plan.
Lauren & Sam’s Colorado Airbnb wedding adventure elopement became a two-day story — centered around an intimate ceremony at a secluded lakeside Airbnb at 10,000 feet, followed by a high-alpine adventure deep into the mountains. It was peaceful. Joy-filled. Intimate. And full of beauty around every corner.
We’ll never forget this one — and we’re so excited to share it with you.

Day One: A Wedding Day at 10,000 Feet
Some wedding days feel like they were always meant to unfold exactly as they did — even if the road to get there took a few unexpected turns. Lauren & Sam originally planned to marry in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But when Hurricane Helene changed everything, we pivoted together and returned to the roots of their original vision: a mountain elopement out west.
What they wanted was clear: a relaxed, meaningful wedding day surrounded by their closest loved ones — and a setting that felt quiet, wild, and completely them. We scoured hundreds of Airbnb listings across Colorado, looking for the perfect combination of privacy, views, and functionality. Eventually, we landed on a stunning lakeside property at 10,000 feet — nestled on 30 acres, with aspen trees, a mountain lake, and long-range views of the Rockies in the distance.
The home was beautifully laid out for a wedding: separate floors for getting ready, large windows for natural light, and plenty of space for their family gather on-site for the day. Most importantly, it gave us the ideal location for their ceremony: an open area by the lake, with room for guests and benches to face a handcrafted arbor with the mountains beyond.
The day began slowly, as every wedding should. We met everyone the evening before for a casual rehearsal and pizza in town — a moment of connection that made the morning feel warm and relaxed. Lauren got ready upstairs with the ladies, while Sam and the guys spent the morning outside. (We got a few great shots of Sam “fishing” at the lake on their wedding day — a bit of an inside joke to show Lauren later).
One of the most emotional moments came when Lauren saw her mom after putting on her dress — and the tears flowed freely from everyone in the room. Soon after, we walked her out for a private first look with her dad by the lake, which she later admitted she was more nervous for than the ceremony itself. It was tender, heartfelt, and unforgettable — the kind of moment that can only happen when there’s space in the day to let it unfold.
Their ceremony was simple and beautiful, and long awaited. Lauren walked down the aisle with both her mom and dad, emerging from the lower floor of the home in a sweet reveal. A family friend officiated, leading them through heartfelt vows and joyful laughter. We all felt the closure of finally seeing this through after twists and turns with two different plans … such an amazing feeling!
Afterward, we gave them time just to soak it all in — sitting together on a bench where they had just said “I do,” gazing out at the view in silence and smiles. It was one of our favorite moments of the day.
Then came something truly unique — a canoe ride into the middle of the lake, just the two of them, to exchange private vows they had written for each other. It was peaceful, romantic, and perfectly them… even if Sam got a little daring by standing up to pass her the vows, much to Lauren’s playful protest!
The evening transitioned into celebration — champagne with family, a heartfelt toast from Lauren’s dad (with more tears, of course), a cookie cake cutting, and a delicious taco bar for dinner. Guests mingled and relaxed as the sun dipped low behind the mountains. The pace of the evening matched the feel of the day: calm, joyful, and deeply meaningful.
This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a complete experience — thoughtfully designed and completely personal, from beginning to end.
Day Two: A Picnic, Iconic Peaks & Stillness at 12,000 Feet
The beauty of a two-day elopement is that you have time to get past the nerves of day one. The ceremony is behind you, and what lies ahead is all about connection, joy, and adventure for just the two of you. For Lauren & Sam, Day Two was exactly that — a day designed to explore the heart of Colorado together and fully immerse themselves in the mountains they had dreamed of from the start.
We met in the afternoon, planning everything to unfold slowly and lead us into golden hour at the highest point of the day. They wore their wedding attire again — and stepped right back into that feeling of celebration.
Our first stop was a peaceful alpine lake, nestled in the forest and glowing under the warm afternoon light. Lauren’s stepmom had packed them a special picnic lunch, filled with surprises and little personal touches — and we found a quiet spot next to the water for them to sit down, open it up, and take it all in. The two of them laughed, lingered, and let the moment stretch — wandering on the rocky beach, toes in the cold mountain stream, nowhere to be but here. It was the perfect start to the day.
From there, we made our way to a nearby overlook — one we had specifically chosen to frame them against a backdrop of iconic Rocky Mountain peaks in the area. This stop was intentional: part of a full “Colorado highlights” experience that we had carefully designed just for them. From alpine lakes to sweeping views, we wanted each location to offer something unique — not just for the photos, but for the memories they’d take with them.
Our final stop took us high above it all — up a winding national forest road to a 12,000-foot basin with an alpine lake & epic long range views. Just a few days earlier, we had hiked the same spot and were nearly blown over by howling winds. But today? Not even a breeze. The stillness was complete. A gift, really — as if the mountains themselves were holding space for Lauren & Sam to take it all in.
They walked along the ridgeline hand-in-hand, surrounded by snow-dusted peaks and glowing light. We stayed until the last rays of sun slipped below the horizon. Just as the light faded, a deer with velvet-covered antlers stepped into view across the lake — a final, quiet witness to this day of joy, reflection, and deep connection.
We lit lanterns for a few final portraits as the dusk settled in, then made our way back through the hush of blue hour.
It was the perfect ending. A day that felt like a gift. A celebration not just of their marriage, but of what’s possible when you say yes to adventure — and trust someone to help you design it with purpose.
Designing the Day: From Scratch, With Purpose
When we first talked with Lauren & Sam about rescheduling after Hurricane Helene, it wasn’t just about finding a new location — it was about starting fresh, while still honoring their original vision.
They had always loved Colorado. It was actually their first idea before choosing the Blue Ridge Mountains — but the logistics felt out of reach at the time. When we offered the idea of revisiting that dream, this time with our full planning support and experience behind it, they said yes with open hearts.
What followed was a deeply personalized planning process. They didn’t come to us with a Pinterest board or a list of must-haves. Instead, they trusted us — to take what we’d learned about them, pair it with our extensive travel experience in Colorado, and design a two-day elopement that felt like them from start to finish.
We researched hundreds of vacation rentals across the state — selecting the best of the best for privacy, scenery, natural light, floor plan functionality, ceremony logistics, and proximity to adventure. After narrowing it down to 35 properties, we paired each one with nearby scenic locations and built out a full map of options. From there, we guided them through choosing the perfect Airbnb wedding location — the one that rose to the top with everything they had imagined: a private lake, stunning Rocky Mountain views, and enough space for both gathering and solitude.
Day Two was built with the same care. We scouted and planned a route that gave them a full Colorado experience: alpine lakes, picnic time in nature, panoramic overlooks, and a high-elevation sunset that felt like it came straight from a dream.
This was never just about taking pretty photos in Colorado. This was about designing an intentional, meaningful, and logistically sound two-day experience from the ground up — one that could only happen through trust, collaboration, and deep care.
And it was worth every moment of effort.

Personalized Elements of Their Day
Lauren & Sam’s celebration was full of simple, meaningful choices that made their experience feel deeply personal.
Private Vows by Canoe
One of the most unforgettable moments of their day was something we dreamed up just the day before: paddling a canoe out onto the lake for private vows. As the light shifted in the late afternoon, they quietly pushed off from shore — just the two of them in the middle of the water, surrounded by mountains and stillness. It gave them the space they’d been craving to speak their promises in private, away from the crowd. We’ll never forget the peacefulness of that moment — or Lauren laughing as Sam stood up in the canoe to hand her his vow book, cool as ever.
Cowboy Boots & Mountain Vibes
True to who they are, they both wore cowboy boots on both days. It was the perfect blend of down-to-earth and dressed up — a reflection of their easygoing personalities and love for the outdoors. From lakeside portraits to alpine trails, those boots carried them through every part of their wedding adventure.
Bringing Bandit Along
Their sweet pup Bandit made the trip to Colorado with them, and we loved seeing him be part of the celebration. It meant the world to them to have their dog there — not just as a guest, but as part of their little family. He even made a few photo cameos (and tried to steal a few snacks along the way!).
Each one of these are thoughtful decisions rooted in who Lauren & Sam are. Decisions like these are what made their elopement so memorable. Every part of their day was intentional, easygoing, and full of heart.
What They Had to Say About Their Day
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We received the sweetest message from Lauren not long after:
“Thank you for planning and photographing our perfect wedding adventure ❤️”
It meant the world to us to hear!
And then came her full review, which left us both smiling ear to ear:
“Mark and Carolyn truly want you to have the best day ever. Genuine, compassionate, and skilled is how I would describe them and their team. The two of them couldn’t have executed our wedding day any better than they did. And the most exciting part is we have breathtaking pictures that captured every moment.”
We also want to give a special shoutout to Julie, Lauren’s stepmom, who was an incredible partner throughout the entire journey. From the early planning stages to the rescheduling after Hurricane Helene, she was thoughtful, supportive, and always helped us by working behind the scenes to help bring this day to life.
We finally got to meet her in person the day before the wedding — putting the finishing touches on everything together. But when the day arrived, we gently reminded her it was time to let go of the planning reins and simply enjoy the celebration:
“Take it all in. We’ve got this.”
After everything was said and done, she thanked us not just for capturing the day — but for sticking with them through every twist and turn. And we said the same. It was an absolute joy to walk this path together and see it through, all the way to the mountains of Colorado.
This experience was more than a wedding. It was a full-circle moment. One we’ll all remember for a very long time.
