Sarah & Michael | Sunrise Off-road Jeep Adventure Elopement in the Colorado Rockies
Some love stories are best told in chapters — and Sarah & Michael’s journey is one we’ll always hold close.
Their original vision with us was a two-day elopement experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains: a full wedding day with family, followed by a private day of adventuring to mountain peaks, waterfalls, and setting time aside for private, heartfelt vows. But about a month before their date, Hurricane Helene swept through the region, forcing us to reevaluate everything. Trails were closed, roads washed out, and the landscape they had imagined exploring for their private vows was suddenly inaccessible.
We walked through that season together — weighing options, even considering a complete pivot to Shenandoah National Park. But as the days unfolded, we realized their ceremony location — a private vacation rental — was spared. So we moved forward with Day One: an emotional, joy-filled wedding day surrounded by their closest loved ones.

Day Two, however, would have to wait.
Months later, as we began planning another elopement in Colorado, we reached out with a question: what if we finished what we started — but this time in the Rockies? We knew they both liked to travel and see new places, and in the months prior they had mentioned they’d never been to Colorado and would like to someday.
Their answer was an immediate yes. No hesitation. Just trust, grace, and excitement to continue the story in a new way.
From the very beginning of planning their original elopement, one thing stood out to us — our shared connection in Christ. Sarah & Michael spoke openly about their faith, and from that very first conversation, we knew this would be more than just another wedding. It was a blessing to walk alongside them not only as their guides and photographers, but also as fellow believers — encouraging them to begin this new chapter with God at the center.
While most couples know us for our work in the Blue Ridge Mountains, what many don’t realize is that we’ve spent years exploring the Mountain West — from family road trips to national park adventures — building a deep familiarity with Colorado’s landscapes. That experience allowed us to craft something meaningful and immersive for Sarah & Michael: a sunrise Jeep adventure to a remote alpine ridge near Crested Butte, where they could finally share the vows they had written so long ago.
And so, on a quiet summer morning at 12,000 feet, with the first light cresting over wildflower-filled valleys and snow-touched peaks, they spoke the words they’d waited to say.
The story was complete — just in a different place than any of us had imagined.

Designing Their Experience
From the outside, it might have looked spontaneous — a sunrise Jeep ride into the Colorado high country to share private vows. But behind that moment was months of trust, listening, and thoughtful planning.
Sarah & Michael didn’t just want epic views or a fun location. They wanted a setting that aligned with their hearts — something quiet, intentional, and centered on their love for each other and for Christ. That meant this wasn’t just about “finding somewhere pretty.” It was about finding the place that would feel like the right ending to a journey that had taken so many turns.
Because of our long-standing experience exploring the Mountain West — including many family trips and scouting missions over the years — we were able to design something that didn’t feel like a compromise. It felt like exactly what it was meant to be.
We proposed a remote alpine ridgeline outside of Crested Butte, accessible only by Jeep and best reached in the quiet hours before sunrise. We knew it would take some grit to get there — steep roads, chilly air, and a very early start — but Sarah & Michael were completely in.
And that spirit of trust? It made all the difference.
From choosing the route and timing the lighting, to making sure their day flowed with a natural rhythm, every element was designed to allow them to breathe deep, slow down, and just be with each other.
They wore their wedding attire again — a meaningful callback to the promises they had already made — and carried with them the vows they never got to speak on their wedding day. This wasn’t a “redo.” It was the completion of something sacred.

Their Elopement Story | Photo Gallery
Act I: Pre-dawn moments
It was early. The kind of early that starts in total darkness — headlights on, gear packed, hearts full of anticipation.
Sarah & Michael followed us in their own Jeep, winding up steep national forest roads as we led the way to a high-alpine trailhead above Crested Butte. The predawn light offered just enough of a glow to grab a few shots of their silhouette in the Jeep, headlights cutting through the darkness — and later, a few fun photos of them crossing shallow water in the road as the light grew.
We reached the ridgeline in time for that quiet in-between — when the world is still, just before sunrise.
Act II: Sunrise vows & Exploring Together
We brought them to the perfect place we had scouted out for their vows, and we lit a few lanterns for photos in the early dawn stillness. The moment felt sacred. And just as alpenglow began to light the surrounding peaks, Sarah & Michael stepped into the heart of what this day had always been about.
They exchanged private vows in the presence of God and each other — no distractions, no noise, just the stillness of the alpine air and the glory of creation around us. It was a deeply moving moment, and an honor to witness. The kind of sacred stillness that settles in when you know the Lord is among you.
From there, we hiked through the high country, pausing at alpine lakes and meadows painted in summer wildflowers. Portraits flowed easily — joyful, lighthearted, full of connection and ease. The dramatic mountain backdrop, rocky outcrops, and brilliant morning sun made it all feel dreamlike.
Act III: First dance, champagne and wildflowers
Eventually, we descended toward a tucked-away alpine lake nestled deep in a valley. The still water and quiet surroundings felt like nature’s blessing — as if this place had been waiting just for them.
They danced together to a song from their wedding playlist, popped champagne, and soaked in the moment — this long-awaited celebration of their love and the faith that brought them here.
And how did we finish the morning? With pancakes and coffee at a cozy breakfast spot in town — telling stories, laughing, and reliving the journey we’d shared to get here.
It was, in every way, the perfect close to a story written with intention, patience, and grace.
Personal Touches That Made This Day Uniquely Theirs
What made this adventure even more meaningful was how seamlessly it picked up where their wedding day left off — not just emotionally, but in the little details too.
Sarah & Michael wore the exact same wedding attire from their November ceremony in the North Carolina mountains. She stepped back into her dress and trusty cowboy boots, continuing the story they had started months before. One sweet twist of irony: her faux fur wrap, which she didn’t end up needing on their mild November wedding day, turned out to be the perfect companion for the crisp mountain air at 12,000 feet on a Colorado summer morning.
And then there were the vows.
Handwritten months before, carried through a season of patience and uncertainty, and finally spoken as the morning light bathed the mountaintops in gold. Every word was heartfelt and intentional — a reflection of their love, their faith, and the promise they carried through both the hard days and the joyful ones.
These moments weren’t just personal — they were sacred. And we’ll never forget them.
What They Had to Say About Their Day
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We’ll never forget the morning after their Colorado elopement adventure — waking up to this message from Sarah:
“We can’t thank you guys enough for yesterday! It was a perfect day and it never would’ve happened without you guys. It is a day we’ll never forget and we are just so grateful!! ❤️”
That’s the kind of feedback that stays with you. Not because it’s praise — but because it reflects the trust, joy, and heart behind the whole experience.
Later, when we posted a sneak peek from their day, Sarah wrote:
“You guys are simply the BEST! We could not have imagined a better day and we can’t wait for our next adventure!”
We don’t take that lightly.
From the very first call, our shared connection in faith set the foundation for this journey — and it’s meant the world to walk through this with them, not just as photographers and planners, but as fellow believers.
And yes… there’s already talk of another adventure in the future — maybe Iceland. Maybe Alaska. Maybe both.
Wherever the road leads, we’d be honored to meet them there again.

We can’t say enough good things about Craig at Alpenglow Rentals. Not only did he provide top-notch Jeeps for both our team and for Sarah & Michael, but he also shared trail insights and made the whole process seamless. Watching Michael navigate the mountain trails behind the wheel of their Jeep… it was clear he was loving every minute of it. Highly recommend for any Colorado adventure elopement.
