Hannah and Dominic were the kind of couple who wanted their wedding day to feel as authentic as their relationship—nothing traditional, nothing overwhelming, and everything meaningful. From our first conversation, it was clear that they were drawn to water, and not just any water: Hannah described her vision as “rushing, loud water,” something that brought her peace and felt alive. This detail became the heartbeat of their day.

What made their story even more special was their deep bond and shared history. They started as high school best friends who lost touch for years but found their way back to each other. Dominic even moved across the country to be with Hannah! Their connection was magnetic, and their focus on togetherness made their elopement one we’ll never forget.

The “Why” Behind Their Decision to Elope

For Hannah and Dominic, a traditional wedding was never the right fit. “Planning a traditional wedding got to be too much of a headache,” they admitted. “We’re not wanting to get married to appease others or follow traditions. Getting good pictures and an amazing video was more important to us than anything.”

Their decision to elope was rooted in their desire for intimacy, simplicity, and authenticity. They wanted a day that reflected who they were as a couple—easygoing, adventurous, and deeply connected. The idea of centering their day around water, where they felt the most at peace, made perfect sense.

The Vision for Their Day

Hannah’s vision was clear from the start: she wanted water to be the star of their day. They imagined starting their morning together in a secluded cabin, sharing an emotional first look, and then saying their vows next to water. As the plans came together we decided to create their “water experience” in two parts — ceremony at an accessible, picturesque spot next to a mountain stream and then time for each other at a waterfall. That would become the focal point of their day — and adventure to a waterfall—an epic, rushing cascade where they could take in the moment together!

Their day wasn’t just about the locations, though. It was about striking the perfect balance of time alone as a couple and moments shared with their closest family. It was simple, yet adventurous, and beautifully tailored to who they are.

How We Designed Their Elopement Experience

Hannah and Dominic came to us with a strong idea of what they wanted, but they needed help completing the vision and bringing it all together. The idea of a rushing waterfall became the centerpiece of the plan, and we dove into finding the perfect locations to match their vision.

We helped them design a seamless day that included:

1. A Romantic Airbnb: A private, picturesque cabin where they could start the day together and share an emotional first look.
2. A Ceremony by the Water: An intimate spot at a historic stone bridge with a stream running through it, creating the perfect peaceful backdrop for their vows.
3. An Epic Waterfall Adventure: A nearby waterfall hike where they could celebrate, explore, and connect with nature in the way that meant the most to them.
4. A Family Reception: An intimate dinner at a cabin with the whole family, where they could wrap up the day surrounded by love.

Their day began at a quiet cabin where they spent the morning getting ready separately. Dominic shared some playful moments with their dog, Olsen, while Hannah took in the excitement of the day, her sparkly dress catching the morning light. She was absolutely beaming and so excited to see Dominic for their first look!

Their first look was one of those magical moments that felt like time stopped. Alone in the woods, Dominic turned to see Hannah, and their reaction to each other said it all—tears, laughter, and pure love. It was the perfect way for them to start their day together, away from any distractions.

The ceremony at the old stone bridge was such a heartfelt time. With the gentle sound of the stream flowing beneath them, they exchanged vows that felt so pure and emotional! When Hannah told Dominic, “You make me feel safe,” there wasn’t a dry eye in sight.

But the true adventure began at the waterfall. As they hiked to the base of the rushing cascade, the energy of the day shifted into something playful and spontaneous. Dominic climbed up to a ledge near the waterfall, encouraging Hannah to join him. Though hesitant at first, she trusted him, took his hand, and climbed up to meet him. The cheers from nearby hikers and the way they celebrated that moment together was unforgettable! Watch the video and you’ll hear them in the background … and later Hannah sings too!

They danced by the waterfall, toasted with champagne, and simply reveled in being present with each other.

To cap off their day, they joined their family for a fun reception dinner and a prayer of thanks. Hannah’s words of gratitude to her family were a beautiful reminder of the love and support surrounding them!
