Charleston SC Elopement Packages & Planning Guide

Charleston is one of the most beautiful places in the Southeast to elope.

Historic streets.
Garden courtyards.
Live oaks.
Waterfront views.
Nearby beaches.
Private homes that feel like they belong in a story.

But when couples start searching for Charleston elopement packages, they usually run into a problem:

Not all elopement packages are created for the same kind of couple.

Some are built to be fast and simple.
Some are tied to a venue you have to choose first.
Some are essentially a ceremony and a few photos.

And some are designed around something much more personal.

That is where our approach is different.

We create fully custom Charleston elopement and intimate wedding experiences built around how you want the day to feel, who you want with you, where you want to spend your time, and how Charleston can become part of something meaningful instead of just a pretty backdrop.

If you’re still early in the process, our How to Elope guide is a helpful place to understand the bigger planning order before choosing a package, venue, or location.

Choosing a beautiful location isn’t enough.

Check out our guide on designing elopements the right way

Charleston Elopement Packages: What’s Included?

Charleston elopement packages can vary widely.

Some include a short ceremony, basic planning, and a small amount of photography. Others are built around a specific venue, officiant, or pre-selected location.

Our Charleston elopement packages are different because they are designed around the full experience.

Depending on the vision, our packages may include:

  • custom planning and experience design
  • location guidance for Charleston, nearby beaches, gardens, private homes, and historic areas
  • photography coverage
  • timeline design
  • vendor recommendations
  • Airbnb or private home guidance
  • ceremony flow support
  • guest experience planning for intimate weddings
  • optional multi-location or multi-day design

This is not a one-size-fits-all package.

It is a guided planning experience built around the kind of wedding day you actually want to have.

Are Our Charleston Elopement Packages All-Inclusive?

In one sense, yes.

Our work is meant to give couples the clarity, guidance, and support they are often hoping for when they search for all-inclusive elopement packages in Charleston SC.

But we are not a cookie-cutter all-inclusive elopement company.

That distinction matters.

A typical all-inclusive elopement package is usually built around convenience. You may choose from:

  • a short list of ceremony locations
  • a fixed time block
  • a pre-set planning process
  • a rotating vendor team
  • a simple ceremony-and-photos format

For some couples, that is exactly what they want.

If you simply want to show up, get married, take a few photos, and be done, a streamlined all-inclusive package can be a good fit.

But if you want your Charleston elopement to feel personal, intentional, and fully designed around you, that kind of pre-set structure can start to feel limiting.

Our approach gives you the ease and support couples often want from an all-inclusive experience, but without forcing your wedding day into a generic template.

We help you:

  • shape the vision for your day
  • narrow the right Charleston locations
  • think through guest experience
  • plan around traffic, timing, privacy, and logistics
  • design a timeline that feels calm and natural
  • connect with trusted wedding professionals when needed
  • and document the day with care

So instead of choosing from a menu, you get a custom Charleston elopement experience that still feels guided, supported, and thoughtfully planned from start to finish.

What Kind of Charleston Elopement Package Are You Actually Looking For?

Most couples searching for Charleston SC elopement packages are looking for a simpler way to get married.

But “simple” can mean very different things.

Before choosing a package, it helps to understand the three main paths couples usually run into.

Package TypeBest ForWhat You GetMain Tradeoff
All-Inclusive Elopement PackageCouples who want the simplest, fastest optionPre-set location, short ceremony, basic vendor bundleEasier, but often more templated and less personal
Venue-Based Elopement PackageCouples who already know they want a specific venueCeremony/reception structure, venue support, defined rulesYou choose the venue first, then fit the day inside it
Fully Custom Elopement ExperienceCouples who want a personal, guided dayVision design, location guidance, timeline, photography, vendor recommendations, day-of supportMore thoughtful planning, but much more tailored
Custom Intimate Wedding ExperienceCouples including family or close friendsGuest flow, ceremony, dinner/reception planning, location/venue guidance, photographyRequires more logistics, but preserves connection and meaning

Option 1: All-Inclusive Elopement Packages

All-inclusive elopement packages are designed for convenience.

They usually work best for couples who want:

  • a short ceremony
  • a simple location
  • minimal decisions
  • a no frills vendor team
  • a clear, pre-set process

The upside is simplicity.

The tradeoff is customization.

These packages often work by repeating the same structure for many couples. That can make the process efficient, but it can also make the day feel more like a service appointment than a wedding experience designed around who you are.

Option 2: Venue-Based Elopement Packages

Charleston also has beautiful venues, inns, gardens, restaurants, and historic spaces that offer small wedding or elopement packages.

This can be a strong fit if you already know where you want to get married and you like the traditional structure the venue provides.

Venue packages can offer:

  • a defined ceremony space
  • guest seating
  • bathrooms
  • parking or transportation structure
  • vendor rules
  • weather backup
  • reception or dinner options

The challenge is that you are choosing the venue before you have fully designed the experience.

That can work beautifully for some couples.

But for others, it starts to feel too much like the traditional wedding structure they were trying to avoid: choose the venue first, then make everything else fit inside that box.

Option 3: A Fully Custom Charleston Elopement Experience

This is where our work lives.

We do not start by handing you a fixed package or telling you to choose a venue first.

We start with the experience.

What do you want the day to feel like?

Quiet and private?
Guest-centered and celebratory?
Historic and romantic?
Coastal-vibe and relaxed?
A full Charleston destination weekend with your closest people?

From there, we help shape the location, timeline, photography, logistics, and flow around that vision.

That may mean:

  • getting ready at a private Airbnb
  • private vows at a historic home or courtyard
  • a ceremony under live oaks
  • just-us time downtown or at one of the many gardens
  • time with family at a meaningful location
  • a private chef dinner back at the Airbnb
  • a beach sunrise the next morning
  • or a multi-day Charleston elopement experience that lets the whole weekend breathe

This gives you the best part of an all-inclusive experience — less stress and more support — without forcing you into something cookie-cutter.

Charleston Elopement Packages vs. Intimate Wedding Packages

Not every Charleston elopement looks the same.

Some couples want the day to be just the two of them.

Others want parents, siblings, or a small group of close friends present.

That difference matters because guest count changes the entire experience.

Charleston Elopement Packages

These are best for couples who want:

  • just the two of them or a very small guest count
  • a flexible, experience-based day
  • multiple locations
  • a quiet, personal ceremony
  • time for exploring, portraits, and being fully present

Charleston Intimate Wedding Packages

These are best for couples who want:

  • a small group of guests
  • more structure
  • a ceremony and dinner or reception flow
  • private lodging or venue support
  • help thinking through guest comfort, timing, and logistics

In both cases, the goal is not to make the wedding bigger or more complicated.

The goal is to design the right experience for the people who are actually part of it.If you are still deciding how many people to invite, our guest count guide explains how adding guests changes your location options, timeline, privacy, and budget.

How We Create Custom Charleston SC Elopement Packages

Our process starts before the location.

That is one of the biggest differences between a fully custom Charleston elopement and a pre-set package.

Instead of asking, “Which venue do you want?” or “Which package do you want to buy?” we start by helping you answer better questions:

  • What do you want the day to feel like?
  • Who actually needs to be there?
  • Do you want privacy, guests, or a blend of both?
  • Do you want Charleston’s historic streets, gardens, waterfront, beaches, or private homes to be part of the experience?
  • Do you want a one-day elopement or a full weekend?
  • Do you want the day to feel relaxed, elegant, adventurous, family-centered, or deeply private?

Maybe you’ve thought of eloping in Charleston as simply having a short ceremony somewhere beautiful, followed by a few photos around the city.

And for some couples, that may be enough.

But we believe your Charleston elopement can be so much more than that.

It can be a full experience built around the two of you: where you stay, where you exchange vows, how you spend time with your people, what parts of Charleston you want to enjoy, and how the whole day feels from beginning to end.

That could mean:

  • a quiet morning in a historic home
  • private vows in a courtyard
  • a ceremony beneath live oaks
  • portraits through Charleston’s historic streets
  • a beach sunrise
  • kayaking through a tidal marsh
  • a private sailboat experience
  • a picnic on the beach
  • a chef-prepared dinner with your closest people
  • or a full weekend experience where your guests feel cared for too

Once the vision is clear, the rest of the decisions become easier.

The location is chosen because it supports the experience.
The timeline is designed around light, movement, privacy, guests, and emotion.
The photography is built into the flow instead of interrupting it.
The day feels personal because it was never copied from someone else’s template.

Our planning process often includes:

  • Vision-building: understanding what you want the day to feel like
  • Season and timing: choosing the right time of year, time of day, and flow
  • Location guidance: narrowing Charleston locations that actually fit your vision
  • Private home or Airbnb strategy: helping you choose lodging that supports the day, not just somewhere to sleep
  • Vendor recommendations: connecting you with trusted wedding professionals when needed
  • Timeline design: creating a day that feels calm, natural, and unrushed
  • Guest experience planning: helping you include loved ones without losing the intimacy
  • Photography: documenting the full story of the day, not just the ceremony

To put our planning philosophy simply:

Imagine the kind of beautiful, meaningful day you’d want to spend together anyway — the places, meals, moments, and experiences that feel most like you.

Now imagine getting married as part of it.

That is the kind of Charleston elopement experience we love creating.

Not rushed.
Not generic.
Not just a ceremony in a pretty place.

A full experience designed around you.

While we’re based in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charleston is one of the Lowcountry destinations we know and love.

For couples drawn to Charleston, we bring the same fully guided, experience-first planning approach into a completely different kind of landscape.

What a Fully Custom Charleston Intimate Wedding Can Look Like

One of the best examples of this approach is our White Point Garden wedding story.

That day was not just a ceremony in a public park.

It was a complete Charleston intimate wedding experience designed around the couple, their guests, the flow of the day, portraits, family time, and celebration.

White Point Garden gave the day a recognizable Charleston setting, but the location was only one piece of the full experience.

The real design came from how everything worked together:

  • where they got ready
  • how guests were included
  • how the ceremony flowed
  • time set aside just for them
  • how the day moved through the Charleston area organically
  • how the celebration felt connected instead of pieced together

That is where a custom Charleston elopement or intimate wedding can become so much more than a quick ceremony and a few photos.

Depending on the couple, that might mean:

  • walking through historic streets after the ceremony
  • planning a private dinner or fine dining experience
  • spending time near the water at sunset
  • building the day around a beach picnic or quiet coastal moment
  • including a sailing experience or time on the water
  • kayaking through a tidal marsh
  • taking a surf lesson the day before or after
  • timing the celebration around something meaningful, like fireworks over the harbor

Those details are not just “extras.”

They are often what make the day feel like yours.

This is the difference between simply choosing a location and designing a wedding day.

The location gives the day a setting.
The experience gives it meaning.

The Best Places to Elope in Charleston, SC

Once you understand the kind of Charleston elopement package or intimate wedding experience you are looking for, the next question is where that experience should happen.

Charleston has beautiful public spaces, garden venues, historic streets, waterfront areas, beaches, private homes, inns, and intimate venues.

But each one supports a different kind of day.

A public park might be beautiful for a small ceremony, but not ideal for privacy.
A plantation garden might offer a more romantic and structured setting.
A private home or Airbnb might give you the space to gather, get ready, and celebrate with family.
A beach might work beautifully for sunrise vows, but not for a guest-heavy midday ceremony.

This is why we don’t think of Charleston locations as interchangeable backdrops.

We think of them as pieces of a larger experience.

We also list some places below that we don’t recommend, because in our opinion they aren’t a good match for a private and intimate experience.

Of course, this is just a selection of the best places to elope in Charleston. We keep the best spots to ourselves for our clients. Want to know more? Reach out to us!

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

One of our favorite places for a Charleston SC elopements is Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. They are very elopement friendly and have special pricing just for elopements! They have a very large property which has so many beautiful options for your ceremony and photos together, and you can even book the assistance of a golf cart for getting around. If there happens to be rain on your day, there are a couple of covered gazebos you can duck under until the showers pass. There are times when it is not completely private as it’s open to other visitors during the day, but we’ve never found it crowded. Magnolia is a great option for your elopement! Read more here about a real Magnolia Plantation Elopement.

A Magnolia Plantation Elopement might be a good fit for you if:

  • You want more privacy than the Charleston downtown locations
  • You don’t mind paying for access to the grounds
  • You love Spanish moss and live oaks everywhere, blooms & the garden vibe overall
  • You have a smaller group size (max of 15 last we checked)

Charlestown Landing State Park | Legare Waring House

This State Historic Site is a gem of a natural area tucked away in the middle of urban Charleston! Charlestown Landing Elopements are straightforward for permits and the pricing is very much worth it to get away from the more popular, public places. On the property is the Legare Waring House too! While an elopement permit doesn’t allow you to go into the house, there are certain times of the day which you can use the surrounding grounds as long as there is not a wedding going on in the same place.

There are many beautiful spots on the property! A point looking out over the marsh, an historic boat, the gardens, the house, and live oak lined pathways just to name a few!

A Charlestown Landing Elopement might be a good fit for you if:

  • You want more privacy than the Charleston downtown locations
  • You don’t mind paying for access to the grounds
  • You love Spanish moss and live oaks everywhere
  • You like more of a lowcountry forest landscape than a garden vibe (Magnolia is better for blooms)
  • You like the historic nature of the grounds and the Legare Waring House
  • You have a smaller group size (max of 15 last we checked)

The Angel Oak

There is no doubt as to the beauty of the Angel Oak tree. As an elopement backdrop it captures the essence of the Lowcountry in one shot – gorgeous live oak and Spanish moss:

But we would be careful planning your special day at such a popular spot to visit. Even during the week, many people are stopping by and walking all around the tree. It is lovely … but would you want to be saying your vows in an open space with the potential for others walking by?

This is what the area around the tree actually looks like during a typical weekday. On weekends, there are sometimes lines around the building to see the tree:

Also a consideration is available parking. During busy times there are tour buses dropping off people and it’s difficult to find a parking spot. This photo shows about 1/3 of the available parking spots:

Cypress Gardens

Located less than an hour from the city of Charleston, Cypress Gardens is managed by Berkley County and is a great alternative to the “busy-ness” of Charleston in general. There are many arches around the property, open lawns, gazebos and a few buildings available to rent for a small reception as well.

In one spot you can even arrive by boat to a special dock right next to a wedding gazebo!

A Cypress Gardens Elopement might be a good fit for you if:

  • You want something away from the hustle and bustle of the city and want the most privacy of all the options.
  • You don’t mind paying for access to the grounds
  • You don’t mind being on the outskirts of the Charleston area (Cypress Gardens is about 40min from downtown)
  • You like more of a lowcountry wetlands landscape
  • You like the idea of paddling through a park-like setting
  • You have a larger group size

Folly Beach

Just a short drive away from Charleston, Folly Beach has a personality of a small beach town – and of course plenty of sand to explore! You may choose to rent a place on the beach (the best option for privacy) or Folly Beach County Park is a good option as long as you’re not in the busiest time of the day. There is so much space on the beach and the parking lot is much larger than it used to be. Usually lots of room to be able to get a little space all to your own!

Our recommendation if Folly is on your list is to rent a place (and book well in advance) if you want your ceremony on the beach. If not, we would suggest the County Park during early morning or late evening, or go to another more private location around Charleston for your ceremony and then come to the beach for fun photos afterwards! To see what this could look like, read more here about a Charleston & Folly Beach Elopement.

A Folly Beach Elopement might be a good fit for you if:

  • You love the beach and don’t mind sand in between your toes
  • You are drawn to an oceanside landscape of dunes, sea oats and of course, lots of sand
  • You’re looking for a place with a sunset view (the south end of Folly is a good place to see sunset over the water, if you’re willing to walk a bit)
  • You don’t mind being about 45min from downtown Charleston
  • You like funky and unique small towns (aka Folly)
  • You have a medium sized group

Sullivan’s Island

Another small beachside community outside of Charleston, but still convenient to the city, is Sullivan’s Island. This can be a great place to elope on the beach, especially if you rent a home on the island. While you’re here, don’t miss the unique character of Fort Moultrie!

Morris Island Lighthouse

This is actually on the north end of Folly Island, this is an expansive beach park where you can catch views of the lighthouse and wander amongst a “boneyard” of trees and driftwood. You can also see sunset from there too over the various inlets and creeks! Just be mindful of the access to get here — there is very little parking and then a walk down a paved path/road to reach the beach. This is a very popular spot, but there is also a lot of space too to find a spot to your own. Finally, be mindful of the tides, all that space can disappear quickly depending on the time of day!

May Forest State Park

A new addition to the South Carolina State Parks system, May Forest State Park is open on a limited basis and at the time of this writing they don’t have their wedding policies / pricing published yet. It’s in a beautiful location on James Island, which has a quiet residential feel to it. You can see the city of Charleston across the water and the grounds are quiet & have a meditative vibe. This could be perfect for a quiet and secluded elopement.

White Point Garden & the Battery

Located on the Charleston Battery, next to Rainbow Row and just a few blocks away from Market Street, this is definitely a great location for the classic peninsular Charleston experience. The large gazebo in the middle of the park is a beautiful spot for photos and a small ceremony too. Read more here about a real White Point Garden Elopement.

However, we would be careful with choosing this spot given that it is so close to the city center. Many events happen here and in other times the general public has the walk of the place, so if you’re after privacy you might want to choose another location for your ceremony.

Most of our couples are after a private experience, and it’s definitely possible here but it depends on the time of the day, day of the week and season too. We’re happy to share with you all the ins and outs of eloping here if you love the setting!

A White Point Garden Elopement might be a good fit for you if:

  • You love the look of the French Quarter and classic Charleston architecture in your photos
  • You don’t mind a few random people walking up on your ceremony and looking (because, it will happen. Tourists stop and look, as much as we try to keep them moving on)
  • You want the convenience of staying in and Airbnb close to downtown
  • You want to experience other places nearby on the Charleston peninsula, like the Pineapple Fountain, Waterfront Park, Meeting Street and more.

Waterfront Park & the Pineapple Fountain

We just want to mention this beautiful location here because we’ve been asked so much about it — we don’t recommend a wedding ceremony here. It’s a great spot for photos, but it just doesn’t afford the kind of privacy we like to assure our clients for an intimate experience. Maybe a sunrise ceremony could work here, but we’d rather pair this with a separate location (such as White Point Garden) for your ceremony and then come here for photos; you’ll like that experience much better!

Hampton Park

Directly adjacent to the Citadel, in the heart of the Charleston peninsula, Hampton Park is like and island of green in the urban grid of Charleston. It is quite the large park with a fountain, bridge, live oaks and Spanish moss, and two pavilions. You can rent the Rose Pavilion for an event which makes it perfect if you have guests along for the celebration.

Some things to consider about planning an Hampton Park elopement: it’s in the middle of the city and a popular park, so we’d be careful about assuming privacy here. Parking is very limited, so we might even just hire an Uber so you don’t have to worry about getting around. Apart from the park setting, the surroundings are very urban in vibe and feel so if you’re looking for more of an outdoor natural setting, we would consider another location like Magnolia, for example!

Wild Dunes Resort

Wild Dunes hosts larger weddings so if you like to have some of the infrastructure / conveniences of a wedding venue, this could be a good fit! We’d just caution how hidden costs can catch you with a venue, and often times working with a venue means you get shoehorned into the typical wedding day timeline. What we mean by that is in traditional weddings there is a time limit on the rental space, and that often means a rushed day. If you opt for a resort wedding, make sure you understand all the extra costs involved and how much you can customize your day to make it feel more like you — not just the cookie-cutter venue experience.

Unique Airbnbs & Luxury Vacation Rentals for an Elopement

Often overlooked, getting married in the private setting of a vacation home can be a great option for an elopement! The Charleston vicinity has some amazing luxury rental homes with space for a small ceremony and reception, and many are on the beach or marsh-side with a view of the intracoastal waterway. We own an Airbnb ourselves and know the ins and outs of working with hosts to have an Airbnb ceremony. Reach out to us if you’d like to know more; we keep a list of all the best hosts and properties in Charleston for an intimate wedding!

A Charleston Airbnb wedding might be a good fit for you if:

  • You have a group size less than 25 (15 or less is ideal; although we’ve had some properties allow 40 attendees in the area)
  • You like the idea of a gorgeous vacation home as your “blank canvas” to craft a wedding day experience from
  • You want privacy above all else
  • You have family (kids, grandparents especially) that don’t travel well and need the comforts of home nearby
  • Your idea of an intimate wedding is a family gathering

We should point out though, vacation rentals are not venues so … while they offer a lot of conveniences at the end of the day you’re renting a house and a lot will need to be coordinated to have an event there. Getting married at an Airbnb is a whole other topic, so to read more check out our post Airbnb wedding venues in South Carolina.

How Private Homes and Airbnbs Can Change a Charleston Elopement

One of the most overlooked ways to design a Charleston elopement is to use a private home or Airbnb as part of the experience.

Not necessarily as the only location.

But as the anchor.

A private home can become the place where:

  • you get ready as you ease into the day
  • you exchange private vows
  • your family can gather
  • you have a chef-prepared dinner
  • you return after portraits downtown
  • the day feels like yours instead of a public performance

This is especially powerful in Charleston because many of the most beautiful public areas are just that — public.

Downtown streets, parks, gardens, and beaches can be incredible for portraits and moments throughout the day, but they are not always the best place for your most private vows or a relaxed family gathering.

That is where a well-chosen Airbnb or private home can open up more possibilities.

You get to enjoy the best of Charleston without forcing the entire emotional weight of your wedding day onto a public space.

But the place you stay cannot be an afterthought.

Your lodging and your elopement locations need to work together. A beachside rental might sound perfect until you realize your ceremony, portraits, dinner, or family gathering are all across town. A downtown stay might be ideal for walking through historic streets, but less convenient if your vision is centered around the beach.

Charleston traffic is part of the planning too. The city is surrounded by water, which makes the road network more constrained than couples often expect. In peak season, traffic and parking can affect the entire flow of the day, so where you stay should support your timeline instead of fighting against it.

The other piece couples often miss is the fine print.

Some rental properties are managed by larger companies and may restrict photography, events, or outside vendors. Sometimes permission can be worked out, but we generally recommend choosing a place that is clearly elopement-friendly from the beginning.

As Airbnb hosts ourselves, we look at rental properties differently. We’re not just asking whether a home is beautiful. We’re asking whether it actually supports the day:

  • Is there good natural light for getting ready?
  • Is there space for hair and makeup?
  • Can family gather comfortably?
  • Is parking realistic?
  • Are photography and vendor access allowed?
  • Does the location work with the rest of the timeline?

A thoughtfully chosen private home can make the whole Charleston elopement feel more personal, private, and relaxed.

If you are considering this kind of experience, our Airbnb wedding venue guide walks through how to evaluate whether a property actually works for a wedding day — not just a weekend stay.

Is Charleston a Good Place to Elope?

Yes — if you want the kind of experience Charleston naturally offers.

Charleston is an incredible place to elope if you’re drawn to historic streets, Lowcountry scenery, live oaks, gardens, coastal light, excellent restaurants, and a destination experience that still feels easy to reach from much of the Southeast.

But Charleston is not a blank slate.

It’s a historic, coastal city with tourism, traffic, parking limitations, venue rules, permits, heat, public spaces, and seasonal demand. That doesn’t mean it’s hard to elope here — it just means the experience needs to be planned with care.

Charleston is a great fit if you want:

  • historic charm and architecture
  • Lowcountry scenery
  • gardens, live oaks, and Spanish moss
  • coastal access and nearby beaches
  • excellent restaurants and private dining options
  • a walkable city experience
  • private homes, inns, or boutique stays
  • a destination feel without leaving the Southeast

Charleston may not be the right fit if you want:

  • total privacy in public spaces
  • dramatic mountain scenery
  • a fully wild outdoor experience
  • easy free access everywhere
  • a large group without a venue, private home, or structured plan
  • a day where traffic, parking, and tourism do not have to be considered

The biggest thing couples often underestimate is that Charleston’s beauty is shared.

The best locations are popular for a reason. Downtown streets, public parks, beaches, gardens, and waterfront areas can be beautiful, but they are not private by default. Traffic can also change the flow of the day quickly, especially if you’re moving between the peninsula, the beaches, and nearby lodging.

That’s why a Charleston elopement works best when the day is designed around the real rhythm of the city — not just a list of pretty places.

With the right plan, Charleston can become a deeply personal, relaxed, and meaningful place to get married.

If you are still comparing Charleston with other parts of the state, our South Carolina elopement guide can help you think through the broader options.

Dreaming of a Charleston Elopement? Here’s Why It’s the Perfect Place to Say ‘I Do’

Eloping isn’t just about your ceremony—it’s about your entire experience! And Charleston, South Carolina, is more than just a picturesque place to say “I do.” It’s a destination that invites you to slow down, soak in the charm, and turn your wedding into a true adventure.

Whether you’re strolling its historic streets, indulging in world-class cuisine, or exploring the stunning coastal landscapes, a Charleston elopement is the perfect blend of romance, history, and Southern hospitality.

1. A City Steeped in History and Charm

Charleston’s cobblestone streets, pastel-colored homes, and stately live oaks draped in Spanish moss create an atmosphere that feels both timeless and intimate. Walking along Rainbow Row or through the historic French Quarter, it’s easy to see why Charleston consistently ranks among America’s most romantic cities.

2. Diverse and Breathtaking Backdrops

Charleston isn’t just one place—it’s a collection of unique and stunning landscapes. Whether you dream of exchanging vows on a quiet beach at (Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah, Isle of Palms just to name a few!), beneath ancient oaks in a hidden Lowcountry garden, or with views of a secluded marshland with golden light reflecting off the water, there’s a perfect setting for every couple.

3. More Than Just a Wedding Day—A Getaway to Remember

A Charleston elopement isn’t just about the ceremony—it’s about the entire experience. Imagine waking up in a boutique inn or unique Airbnb, taking a carriage ride through the historic district, enjoying an intimate waterfront dinner, exploring gardens with blooms nearly year round, or discovering hidden beaches away from the normal tourist spots. We believe your elopement should be a fun adventure together, and it can even be a multi-day celebration filled with love, adventure, and celebration!

4. A Foodie’s Paradise

After your ceremony, celebrate with a private chef at your Airbnb or indulge in a candlelit dinner at one of Charleston’s finest restaurants, like Husk, Church & Union, or FIG, just to name a few! Whether you’re craving a romantic oyster bar by the water or a classic Lowcountry seafood feast, a unique take on shrimp and grits or something with an international flair, Charleston offers an incredible culinary scene that will make your elopement feel even more special.

5. A Destination That Feels Like Home

The Upstate of South Carolina is where we call home, and we can tell you first hand that one of Charleston’s greatest qualities is its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Despite its popularity and tourism scene, Charleston has managed to keep that local vibe no matter where you go. Said another way, this city is all about hospitality and it shows. Visiting Charleston invites you to slow down and savor every moment of your wedding day. You definitely won’t feel out of place exploring this town in your wedding attire — romance is what this city is all about.

6. The Perfect Year-Round Elopement Destination

We’ve planned and photographed elopements in winter, spring and everywhere in between. You can visit here year round as a destination wedding! Spring brings blooming azaleas, summer can be hot but the ocean breeze makes it feasible; fall offers golden light and crisp air, winter is much milder than northern reaches and a beautiful time of the year to experience a little chill in the air.

Charleston isn’t just a place to get married—it’s a place to experience, to explore, and to fall in love with over and over again. Not only will you love eloping here, but you’ll want to come back again and again after experiencing this amazing city!

When Is the Best Time to Elope in Charleston?

Charleston is part of the South Carolina Lowcountry, which means mild winters, warm summers, and especially beautiful spring and fall seasons.

You can elope in Charleston year-round, but the experience changes quite a bit depending on the season — especially when it comes to heat, crowds, lodging, gardens, and how much privacy you can realistically expect in public spaces.

Spring Charleston Elopements

Spring is one of our favorite times of year in Charleston.

Temperatures are often in the 60s and 70s, gardens are blooming, and the city feels full of life. This is an especially beautiful season for couples drawn to places like Magnolia Plantation, White Point Garden, historic streets, courtyards, and outdoor portraits.

The biggest thing to watch is demand. Spring Break stretches across March and April, and many of the best places to stay can book up nearly a year in advance.

Best for: gardens, blooms, historic streets, mild weather, outdoor portraits
Watch out for: Spring Break travel, lodging demand, wedding season bookings, pollen

Summer Charleston Elopements

Summer is definitely the warmest part of the year in Charleston, with highs often reaching the 80s and 90s.

That said, it may not be quite as intense as inland South Carolina. Coastal temperatures tend to be a bit cooler than the interior parts of the state, and there is often an ocean breeze — especially near the beaches.

We would not plan a mid-day beach ceremony in the summer, but summer can still work beautifully if the day is designed around the cooler parts of the day, shade, indoor breaks, private homes, and slower pacing.

This is also peak tourist season, so rental homes, beach properties, and popular areas can be in high demand.

Best for: beach sunrise, private-home experiences, shaded courtyards, slower mornings
Watch out for: heat, humidity, thunderstorms, beach crowds, rental demand

Fall Charleston Elopements

Fall is one of the best times to elope in Charleston.

It has many of the same advantages as spring — comfortable weather, beautiful light, and outdoor-friendly conditions — but often with fewer crowds. The ocean water is still warm, while the air has started to cool down from the heat of summer.

We love fall at the coast, especially for couples who want a relaxed Lowcountry experience with outdoor portraits, intimate dinners, beach time, or a private home base.

The one thing to keep in mind is hurricane season, so flexibility and backup plans still matter.

Best for: comfortable weather, coastal elopements, outdoor ceremonies, intimate weddings, warm ocean water
Watch out for: hurricane season considerations, lodging demand, event traffic

Winter Charleston Elopements

Winter is one of Charleston’s most underrated seasons.

Daily highs are often in the 50s, and when the sun is out, it can feel like a perfect escape from cold and snow farther north. If you do not like breaking a sweat, winter can be a great fit.

It is also a slower tourist season, which can make public locations feel much more peaceful. For couples who want more privacy, easier logistics, and a quieter Charleston experience, winter is worth considering.

You may not get the same floral abundance as spring, but you can gain a calmer, more intimate feel.

Best for: quieter locations, mild winter weather, intimate celebrations, easier access
Watch out for: cooler days, shorter daylight, less garden color

Our Take on the Best Time to Elope in Charleston

For most couples, we recommend spring, fall, or winter weekdays for the best balance of beauty, comfort, and privacy.

Summer can still work, but the day needs to be designed carefully around heat, shade, timing, and crowds.

The better question is not just:

“What season is prettiest?”

It is:

“What season supports the Charleston experience we actually want?”

A garden elopement, a downtown portrait walk, a beach sunrise, a private Airbnb dinner, and an intimate wedding with guests all work differently depending on the season. That is why we help couples choose timing based on the whole experience — not just the calendar.

What a Charleston Elopement Day Can Look Like

A fully custom Charleston elopement is not just a quick ceremony and a few portraits.

It can feel like a full day designed around the city, your relationship, and the people closest to you.

A just-us Charleston elopement might include:

  • getting ready at a private Airbnb
  • a quiet first look in a courtyard
  • private vows at the home or garden
  • portraits downtown among historic streets
  • sunset near the water
  • dinner at a favorite restaurant
  • a relaxed evening back at the house

A Charleston intimate wedding with guests might include:

  • welcome dinner the night before
  • slow wedding morning with family
  • ceremony at a park, garden, venue, or private home
  • portraits downtown
  • family dinner afterward
  • beach sunrise session the next morning

This is the difference between buying a package and designing an experience.

If you want to understand the broader planning order, our How to Elope guide walks through how to start with vision, guest count, location, timing, and flow before locking in details.
